Artist Biography
Ellie Lagrandeur is a Canadian Ojibway artist. Having been born and raised in Northern Ontario had its benefits; the beauty of natural surroundings and abundant wildlife provided a fertile training ground as a young artist. Sketching and painting were regular pastimes in Ellie's childhood; and at age 14, as recommended by her art teacher, she was designing and drawing the program covers for the Sudbury Little Theatre guild.
In 1986 Ellie began her career as a professional artist, creating large-scale wall murals and canvas paintings. Much of her work features natural scenes that emphasize her love of animals. Ellie's paintings let the viewer see the world through her eyes and its a very fine world indeed. She now resides in Alberta, where she runs Dreamcatchers Gift & Art Gallery in Fort Saskatchewan.

Artist Statement

I like to use the artistic license whenever I can. Often I can visualize a different element to add to the painting, visible only in my mind's eye. Once I get an idea for a painting, I can't get it out of mind until its on the canvas, like there's a lesson in it for me.
When asked how do I know when a painting is finished, its difficult to say. On occasion I have gone back to a piece to add something or change the mood completely. When painting scenery, I play-up the lighting and perspective; to me it's all about the mood. I love to paint wildlife; they seem to take on a personality, making it familiar to me, like I've known them.
It's interesting when there is a connection made between the art and the viewer. In a sense you relate to the artist themselves. Not surprising; as I know there is much emotion and personal experience that goes into a painting.
With each new painting I continue to learn. I truly feel blessed and am thankful to have success as an artist. I am grateful to all of my clients for their faith and inspiration, having a talent in art is a gift I cherish.
